Pre-Owned Deals of the Week ending 08-14-2022
Welcome to the Pre-Owned DOTW for the week ending Sunday, July 24, 2022. In this weekly blog, I’ll highlight 5 excellent deals for independent and microbrand watches on the pre-owned market. I spend waaaaay too much time in the various forums and on AD sites, so I’m constantly digging these up.
1. Spinnaker Croft Mid-Size Anchor Black SP-5100-01
Source: Topper Jewelers
URL: https://topperjewelers.com/collections/topper-pre-owned-select/products/pre-owned-spinnaker-11145
Asking Price: $229 USD + 10% off when you use the code "10off"
MSRP: $280 USD
Market Price: $280 USD
Condition Listed: 92% condition due to slight marks on the lugs and throughout the case. The strap is in 90% condition due to slight wear and creasing.
My Notes: Soooo... fair disclaimer: this used to be mine before I traded it in towards the purchase of something else at Topper. The Anchor Black colorway is sold out at Spinnaker and I'd only owned this one for about five months. Good deal and a fun strap monster.
2. Oak & Oscar Humboldt GMT
Source: Topper Jewelers
URL: https://topperjewelers.com/collections/topper-pre-owned-select/products/pre-owned-oak-oscar-11102
Asking Price: $1599 USD + 10% off when you use the code "10off"
MSRP: $1925 USD
Market Price: $1925 USD
Condition Listed: 92% condition due to faint marks on the bezel and throughout the case. The strap is in 90% condition due to slight wear and creasing. Also included is an OEM NATO strap in 97% condition due to minor wear. This watch comes with its inner and outer box, instruction manual, and the one-year Topper Pre-Owned Select warranty.
My Notes: Oak and Oscar make some fine looking timepieces and their GMT has been on my wish list for about six months or more now. After the discount, this unit comes in at about $1440, which is a solid 25%+ off the retail price, which is more than a fair bargain. Side note: Topper are a local AD for me and they're one of those ADs that will talk to you as enthusiastically as the $150 G-Shocks that they sell as they would about the $139,800 Parmigiani Fleurier Tourbillon that they also sell. They are also super friendly towards taking in independent and microbrand watches for trade-in towards purchases and I've found their ratings of pre-owned units to be spot-on.
3. Seals Sea Storm - Gray with Seafoam Bezel
Source: WatchUSeek Forums
URL: https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/fs-seals-sea-storm-gray-with-seafoam-bezel.5428730/
Asking Price: $500
MSRP: $690 USD
Market Price: Sold out.
Condition Listed: Unworn.
My Notes: I don't remember the first time I heard about the Seals Watch Company, but I remember looking at this specific colorway online and going, "Now I know I can't pull off a Traska Seafarer in Mint Green, but this? I could pull this off." Now they're all sold out, which makes the 27% discount off retail even nicer. The watch has also been well-reviewed and the fact that it has the high-beat Miyota 9039 instead of the ubiquitous Seiko NH35 makes it that much nicer.
4. Monta Atlas GMT, Opaline Dial
Source: Reddit
URL: https://www.reddit.com/r/Watchexchange/comments/woiopv/wts_monta_atlas_gmt_opaline_dial/
Asking Price: $1150 USD
MSRP: $1950 USD (with bracelet)
Market Price: $1950 USD
Condition Listed: Per the listing, "watch in in great condition with minor desk rash on the clasp really only visible under harsh/the right lighting."
My Notes: I LOVE my Atlas GMT blue dial. LOVE that thing. One of the most comfortable watches I own, great bracelet, great build quality, great EVERYTHING. I can't think of any negatives off the top of my head. Except maybe the price, but the watch is still worth the heft $2K retail price.
The downside? This listing doesn't include that aforementioned comfortable bracelet. Instead, it comes on a rubber strap. This wouldn't be a big deal, but Monta does NOT sell the bracelet as a standalone piece and listings for the OEM bracelets are few and far between and will likely cost you around $200. That's why I paid for the OEM bracelet from an online seller as my Triumph came with the same rubber strap listed with this unit - and to be fair, it's comfortable and good-looking. But it's something to be aware of.
5. Nodus Sector Sport Peak (Silver Dial)
Source: WatchUSeek
URL: https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/nodus-sector-sport-peak-silver-dial.5400267/
Asking Price: $275 USD
MSRP: $450 USD
Market Price: Sold out
Condition Listed: Per the list, "The NH-35 movement is running strong and there are few signs of wear, most of which are on the bracelet clasp. The sapphire crystal is scratch-free."
My Notes: I have the black DLC version of this that's also sold out and whoever was running the Nodus Insta account actually left this comment on my Insta when I posted about getting it (also pre-owned off of WatchUSeek):
The Nodus Sector watches use the ubiquitous NH35, but they actually take the time to regulate the watch up to four positions, so it usually arrives WAY more accurate than they are out of the factory. I LOVE the fit and finish of my Nodus Sector and am tempted to just snag this one so I have a matching pair.
...
Damnit. Why did I think of that now?
That's it for this week's deals. Drop me a line in the comments if you snag one of these...
